Unit Factor

If (x = y), then (x over y ) = 1 and (y over x) = 1

Here, (x over y ) and (y over x ) are unit factors which are equal to unity.

To convert a measurement from one unit into another, we multiply the given measurement by a unit factor.  We chose such a unit factor whose denominator is the given unit and numerator is the target unit.

We use unit factors for following types of unit conversions:

  1. One prefix to another prefix of the same unit
  2. One basic unit to another basic unit
  3. One derived unit to another derived unit
