Assemble the Electrical Components – Activity to be done by Class 12 Physics Students

Aim

To assemble the components of a given electrical circuit.

Apparatus and Material Required

Resistor, ammeter, (0-1.5A) voltmeter (0-5V ), battery, one way key, rheostat, sand paper, connecting wires.

Procedure

1. Connect the components as shown in the adjoined diagram.
2. Close the key K, and check that the voltmeter and ammeter show deflections on the right hand side.

Results

The components of the electrical circuit were assembled.

Precautions

1. Connect the positive terminal of the battery only with the positive terminal of ammeter and positive terminal of the voltmeter.
2. Connect the ammeter in series with the resistor.
3. Connect the voltmeter in parallel with the resistor
4. Use sand paper only clean the ends of connecting wires and leads of the component terminals. It removes the insulating layers of grease/oil or oxide layer.
5. Avoid excessive use of sand paper which may make the plug unfit to be used with the key.

Discussion

Draw the circuit diagram before connecting the apparatus, and keep it handy while making the connections.
